Copy of The WOW list #5 Podcasts, Books & TED Talks

Our discoveries this month include an inspiring podcast & TED talk, insightful book and an app to keep us calm and stress-free so we can get through the next few months without burning out!

Our favourite community

One Girl Band ~ a collective for self-identifying female entrepreneurs + creatives who work for and by themselves. Living in Lewes means we can easily get along to the brilliant OGB meet-ups in Brighton. We know how it feels to be isolated and lonely working from home. There’s no one to bounce ideas off and talk through obstacles that block us from moving forward in our business. We have got so much out of meeting other female entrepreneurs and discussing our businesses. Magic happens when women of different minds and passions gather together.

We are so excited to be running an expertise session on Pinterest at the OGB Brighton co-working space February 21st 6 – 8pm

Our favourite service

We recently met Jes from Crowdfund 360 at a One Girl Band meet-up. We didn’t know much about crowdfunding, what it was and if it was possible to use crowdfunding for small businesses. We were fascinated and keen to learn more so asked her to educate us! Learn all about it on our blogpost: Crowdfunding: what is it and how to make it work for your creative business

Our favourite podcast

How to Curate Your Life  Work-Life Balance for the Creative Entrepreneur. We love Lizzie’s podcast. She’s the owner of SMUG Lifestyle Store so has learnt a thing or two about running a creative business and shares super helpful insights. She has other equally inspiring guests on and they chat productivity, creativity, health (both mental and physical), self-promotion, mindfulness, priorities and more.

Our favourite book

My Creative (Side) Business: The Insightful Guide to Turning Your Side Projects ~ Monika Kanokova Making money from doing what we love is the dream goal. Reading about the experiences of other creatives is such a good way to learn and be inspired.

Our favourite TED talk

How great leaders inspire action ~ Simon Sinek
Inspiring nuggets from his book Start With Why. Simon started a movement to help people become more inspired at work, and in turn inspire their customers. People don’t buy what you do but why you do it.

Our favourite creative

Georgie St Clair | The Content Designer ~ Artist, photographer, stop-frame animator, content creator and social media visionary…and really lovely lady!! How does she do those stop motions!

Our favourite app

Happy Not Perfect ~ Changing the way we look after our minds. Less stress, more sleep and a calmer mind.

Our favourite Pinterest Tip

Don’t give up!! Pinterest is a “slow burn”. It takes time for your pins to get ‘seeded’ in users feeds. A typical business owner with a good, consistent strategy starts seeing results in the form of traffic and/or sales at least 6 months in.

Our favourite Pinterest Account

Tamsyn Morgans  ~ I blog about vintage home and decorative crafts. Car boot fair addict and renovator of a run-down Victorian house.’ Pinterest is a place to be inspired and make collections of beautiful things to fill your life with. Tamsyn’s whimsical dreamy Pinterest boards perfectly reflect her aesthetic & style. She is always looking for magic ✨
